, N.Y. — The toe-tapping jazz quintet Five Play will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Tusten Theatre, 210 Bridge St., Narrowsburg, N.Y.

The swinging ensemble specializes in innovative arrangements of classic and contemporary standards, rooted in the tradition of 21st century jazz. Five Play “doesn’t compromise on expressiveness, ideas or chops,” says JazzTimes Magazine.

A sub-group of renowned big band DIVA, Five Play is comprised of bandleader Sherrie Maricle (drums), Tomoko Ohno (piano), Noriko Ueda (bass), Jami Dauber (trumpet) and Alexa Tarantino (tenor saxophone).

Winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center’s Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival, Sherrie Maricle has been drummer for The New York Pops for more than 25 years.

“We are pursuing jazz for the same reasons that all jazz players do — we are drawn to it because of a passion for the music,” she said. “We truly love to play, and we hope that our love of the music is passed along to the audience.”

Five Play has performed at many of the most prestigious concert halls, music festivals, universities and jazz clubs in the United States, including Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center. The group has also performed at major festivals in Israel, Japan, France, Germany, Spain and Portugal.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and may be purchased at 845-252-7272 or delawarevallyeartsalliance.org.
