— Ed Wetschler, part owner of a social network and an award-winning journalist, will present "How to Get Started Growing Your Business Through Twitter" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, at Wayne Pike Workforce Alliance in Hawley.

Attendees should have a Twitter account set up before the class and bring their laptops or mobile devices.

This presentation is oriented toward helping area businesspeople who are either new to Twitter or have not yet figured out how to use it.

Wetschler will:

Clarify strengths and weaknesses of Twitter, and how it differs from other social networks (e.g. Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram);

Help attendees increase their followers — and, therefore, their markets — through better use of hashtags, images, and tagging other Twitter users

Encourage attendees to engage their followers so that followers retweet messages, thus spreading the word to non-followers

Discuss what sort of content works best on Twitter.

Wetschler, the award-winning Caribbean editor for the travel trade magazine Recommend, has given workshops on Twitter to travel writers, business owners, including restaurateurs, and marketing professionals. He is also part owner of Tripatini, a social network that the New York Post described as "Facebook for travelers."

Wetschler volunteers for the nonprofit Kindred Spirits Arts Programs, which he got to know while serving as acting editor-in-chief of Milford Magazine in 2007. Before that he wrote for The New York Times, Budget Travel, and various Wachovia and Wells Fargo publications. From 1984 to 2004 he was editor-in-chief of Diversion, a lifestyle magazine for physicians published by Hearst.

Wetschler, his wife, and alpha dog Benny have an apartment in Manhattan, but their primary residence is in Pike County, where he stays awake all night to stop deer from destroying their garden.

The price of the class is $25. To sign up, go to http://squ.re/2D98yfn, or email Tim at tim@sohnsocialmediasolutions.com.

This class is a presentation of Sohn Social Media Solutions, which offers social media marketing services for small businesses to acquire customers and increase sales.
