To the Editor:

Every day is Earth Day at Shohola Elementary School!

We not only had the chance to celebrate Earth Day but shared special recognition of Arbor Day with our Shohola Elementary School fifth-grade students in April. The Milford Garden Club Members teamed up with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Howard Nursery in a special program that donated 150 tree seedlings to our fifth-grade students in honor of Arbor Day.

I want to thank the Milford Garden Club for the opportunity and absolute pleasure of distributing the seedlings to the fifth-graders of Shohola Elementary School. Without your efforts, along with the gardeners involved, these children may not have had that gardening spark ignite. I know some time has passed since the seedlings were distributed but even today while visiting the school, I am still being asked about the “ins and outs” of the seedling growing process. It is fantastic!

The added value of the literature that was distributed, along with information about the care and handling of each seedling was an invaluable life lesson.

Thank you for the support of our outstanding Principal, Diana Bixby, and her outstanding teachers, these gardeners have ample room to stretch their roots (no pun intended)!

Thank you to Rosann Henigan, Milford Garden Club Co-coordinator for Children’s Programs, for coordinating the effort.
