— Zane Grey's legacy of literature and sportsmanship lives on. Learn more about the Western novelist from Lackawaxen at the annual Zane Grey Festival, which offers fun activities for children and adults throughout the day.

The free festival, now in its 14th year, will be held on the grounds of the Zane Grey Museum, 135 Scenic Drive in Lackawaxen, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 14. It is offered by the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River and the Zane Grey's West Society.

Here are some of the highlights:

Bill Streeter of the Delaware Valley Raptor Center will put on a live birds of prey show at 11 a.m.

The Brook Valley Farm will offer horse-drawn wagon rides from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Upper Delaware Puppeteers present our “Who is Zane Grey?” at 12:30 p.m.

Guided bird walk around Dolly's Garden Path at 1 p.m.

Local musician Dan Engvaldsen will perform folk music from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m.

Park Ranger Paddy McCarthy will present a program on the Wild and Scenic Rivers System at 2:45 p.m.

Ongoing throughout the day, staff from Steamtown National Historic Site will demonstrate the "Ring of Fire," in which a series of ignited gas jets heat a tire so that it binds to a locomotive wheel. The Pennsylvania Wood Mobile will provide an interactive exhibit on Pennsylvania's forest resources and forest products industry.

There will be plenty of craft activities available for children, including a scavenger hunt and face painting.

The Lackawaxen Fire Company will serve hamburgers and hotdogs, and the Honesdale National Bank will be serving hot popcorn and ice cold water all day.
