“We’re constantly evolving our services. Everything changes so quickly, especially in digital marketing — we always stay on top of the latest tips and trends."
Tim Sohn

— In 2013, Tim Sohn of Shohola decided to launch a social media marketing business after he was successfully using social media for his freelance writing and editing business. He wanted to share what he learned with other small businesses.

“I had no business plan," he said. "I had no idea if there was an interest for this type of service in the area. I had 12 years of experience working in journalism and thought I would give it a shot."

Since then, Sohn has worked with many businesses and nonprofit organizations, mostly in the Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey area. Clients have included Milford Readers & Writers Festival, Koberlein Environmental Services, Lakerun Learning Center, Tick Borne Disease Network, and many more.

Sohn Social Media Solutions continues to offer social media training/consultation and management services focusing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogging, social media advertising, and more.

However, it has expanded to include public relations (press release writing, editing and distribution), search engine optimization (to drive traffic to websites) lead-generating websites, live-streaming events on social media, and other services.

“We found that local businesses and nonprofit organizations didn’t want to deal with multiple marketing businesses," said Sohn. "So, we expanded our service line. We already had the skills, especially having a background in journalism, and we’re constantly evolving our services. Everything changes so quickly, especially in digital marketing — we always stay on top of the latest tips and trends, and we’re happy to share those with our audience on social media and our clients."

Workshops and conferencesBesides working with clients, Sohn has also brought together hundreds of stakeholders (business and nonprofit owners/leaders, marketers and other employees and volunteers) from small businesses and nonprofit organizations in workshops and social media conferences. Topics have included Facebook for Small Business, Facebook Advertising, How to Choose the Right Social Network, The Power of Press Releases, LinkedIn, Twitter, and many more.

In 2016, he organized a social media conference called C4 DigiCon for the Port Jervis, N.Y.-based Tri-State Chamber of Commerce, bringing together more than 50 people from area businesses interested in upping their digital marketing game.

And on Oct. 27, Sohn organized two social media workshops — Social Media for Small Businesses and Social Media for Non-profits. The presenter was Sree Sreenivasan, former chief digital officer of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The City of New York and Columbia University. Almost 60 people attended the two workshops. Sreenivasan provided many social media tips for attendees to start trying right away, and attendees were pleased with the workshops.

Sohn recently launched a marketing membership program specifically for businesses and nonprofit organizations in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York area who are looking to up their game.
