— The crowd could not contain its cheer. Young and old alike mingled, laughed, and shouted, "Merry Christmas!"

The Historic Milford Community House on Broad and Harper Streets bustled with activity on Dec. 1, as the community launched the holiday season with its annual tree-lighting ceremony. Santa, arriving in a sparkling firetruck, and was greeted by an adoring crowd. The Dingman-Delaware Children's Choir brought "Jingle Bell Rock" to new heights.

There was so much to look at, inside and out. Inside were Tom Keegan's antique holiday trains, Hanukkah menorahs celebrating the Festival of Lights, and an antique tree brimming with antique ornaments.

Outside, under the tent, were unending varieties of cookies and sweet treats and, to wash it all down, hot chocolate with dollops of whipped cream.

Borough President Frank Tarquinio made his way through the tight crowd of families and couples. Santa also worked his way through the crowded lawn to the squeals of delighted children.

One little boy told him he had not been bad, ever.

One little girl, seeing Santa for the very first time, ran crying to her dad.

Some children showed Santa their appreciation with a hug. Others confided what they most wanted for Christmas.

The tree lighting was sponsored by the Milford Community House, Milford Presents, Pike County Chamber of Commerce, Milford Garden Club, Milford Lions Club, The Columns Museum, and the Winter Lights Festival.
