'From Destruction to Creation' art show inspired by last year's knock-out storm

Work on display at the ARTery Gallery was created by artists from Delaware Valley High School

— The art show now at the ARTery Gallery was inspired by last March's catastrophic snowstorm.

"From Destruction to Creation" features the work of artists from Delaware Valley High School, who were inspired by the circumstances around last year's exhibit when the region was struck by a storm that left residents without power for several weeks. Power was restored only in the days leading to the students' reception, which was titled “Unplugged."

Being "unplugged," although challenging, was minor compared to the destruction of many of the ravines that are home to cherished waterfalls, leaving these areas scarred for many years to come.

“Our hearts are broken," Marie Liu, curator and organizer of the event. "We have to adapt to these changes to the landscape and try to see some positives from it — like death which feeds new life. This year we celebrate the beginning of recovery and the creativity that springs forth from the youth."

This exhibit brings the community into the gallery for a fresh look at creations by local young artists, giving them the gallery experience of professional artists. The public and gallery members are continually surprised by the quality and imagination of the pieces presented. The work is mostly for sale, with family, friends and collectors anxious to own a piece by a potential future Picasso.

The exhibit runs through April 8. The gallery is located at 210 Broad St. in Milford and is open in winter from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday through Sunday.

Call for artisansThe ARTery has put out a call for artisan jewelers and bead artists for “Bead-azzled," a juried show of artisan jewelry and beadwork from emerging and professional artists in the tri-state region.
